Type: Towns & Villages

Just a stone’s throw from the South Downs, Burgess Hill dates back to the 17th century when it was home to a flourishing brick and tile industry. It’s name orginates from a local family, the Burgey’s, who were renowned local farmers. Dotted around the town are many buildings that date from the 17th Century.

Relax in St. John’s Park, explore The Green Crescent or one of the many local walks, and enjoy the views across to the South Downs from Batchelors Farm. For something more active, splash around at Aztec Fun Pools.

The town is home to many varied local events, including a popular summer festival, plus Martlets Hall stages year-round entertainment from comedy to music and drama.

Go for a relaxing shop in the traffic-free shopping area which hosts a good range of local and High Street shops as well as the covered Market Place. Or give your feet a rest while relaxing over a coffee or meal in one of the many cafes or restaurants.
