Motor Racing

You don’t have to be a motor racing fan to enjoy the fun and excitement of two classic Sussex motor sports events at Goodwood.

Goodwood, Festival of Speed, West SussexGoodwood’s Festival of Speed on the 11th, 12th, and 13th July 2008 is the world’s biggest classic motor sport event. A glamorous celebration of the history of motor racing, it brings together some of the biggest and best names in the sport for a fabulous weekend of fast cars and flowing champagne. It’s the only event in the world where you can see famous drivers from way back when, like Jack Brabham and Stirling Moss, in action on the track along side current winners like Jensen Button. As well as key cars from the history of Formula 1, you will see magnificent machines like the Alfa Romeo 8C, the Bugatti Type 35 and the Ferrari Testa Rossa.

Goodwood, Revival, West SussexGo back in time for three days of fabulous 50s fun as the Goodwood Motor Circuit Revival Meeting held on the 19th, 20th and 21st September recreates the golden age of British motor racing, 1948 – 1966. The dress code is vintage and everything from the circuit and the cars down to the fish and chip wrappers are in period. On the track, stars of motor sport battle it out with amateurs – Nick Mason of Pink Floyd, Rowan Atkinson and Jools Holland are regulars - in historic vehicles from 1930s racers to 1950s Maseratis and 1960s saloons. You can join in the fun too, by dressing up in 40s and 50s clothing – classic tweeds and trilbies or smart RAF uniforms for gentlemen and Audrey Hepburn-style cocktail dresses or flirty rock ‘n’ roll petticoats for the ladies - and mingling with retro-styled press photographers, St Trinians schoolgirls, Marilyn Monroe look-alikes and traditional English bobbies.
